چکیده
Ectodermal dysplasia is a hereditary disorder characterized by the absence or defect of two or more ectodermally derived structures. These structures include teeth, hair, skin, nails, and sweat glands. Oligodontia, anodontia, and dysmorphic teeth have been reported in both the primary and permanent dentition of affected individuals. Hair tends to be sparse and very fine while skin is dry due to absence or diminished numbers of sweat glands. If hypohidrosis is a feature of the disorder, heat intolerance is common. Freire-Maia and Pinheiro have described and classified 117 forms of ectodermal dysplasia based on combinations of specific clinical and morphological features. This disorder may be transmitted by all mendelian modes of inheritance, as well as by spontaneous de novo mutations. The phenotypic expression of ectodermal dysplasia is variable. Therefore, affected individuals may exhibit a range of clinical features involving teeth, hair, skin, and sweat glands. Tooth ankylosis is defined as a fusion of cementum or dentin with alveolar bone. Affected teeth are unable to move vertically as the alveolar bone grows and, therefore, appear to submerge below the occlusal plane. There has been much debate in the dental literature concerning the diagnosis, etiology, and treatment of ankylosis.' Some primary ankylosed teeth will exfoliate normally and not interfere with permanent suc-

Partial removable prosthesis in a patient with unilateral maxillectomy: A case report
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Maxillofacial defects due to malignant or benign tumors or congenital defects often result in complications such as the impairment of facial aesthetic, mastication, speech, and swallowing. Remedy of these defects, especially in a dentate patient is an important challenge in prosthodontics. Maxillectomy can lead to severe anatomical changes f...
متن کاملOverlay Removable Partial Dentures for a 10-Year Old Child with Oligodontia and Posterior Open Bite Occlusion: A Clinical Report
The most common congenital and developmental anomaly in teeth is the missing of one or more of them. Congenitally missing teeth (CMT) or teeth agenesis mentions failure of tooth formation due to disturbances during the early stages of tooth germ development. There are several definitive treatment options for these patients including fixed, removable or implant-supported prostheses. Economic lim...
متن کاملCorrection of severe tooth rotation by using two different orthodontic appliances: Report of two cases
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Severe rotation of tooth is one of the most common problems in orthodontics and considered as a developmental phenomenon. These rotations can cause cosmetic problems, gingival recession, and traumatic occlusion. By using removable appliances, severe rotations can be treated. Furthermore, gingival damage, tooth attrition, and transposition of other teeth could be prevented. E...
متن کاملCase Report: Delayed Replantation of Avulsed Tooth
This is a case of delayed replantation of avulsed maxillary central incisor after an extended dry extra-alveolar period. A 10-year-old boy presented with avulsed maxillary central incisor after a fall that resulted in dental trauma, occurring 18 hours earlier. Treatment guidelines for avulsed mature permanent teeth with prolonged extraoral time were carried out for the teeth and the extraoral e...
متن کاملSegmental alveolar distraction for the correction of unilateral open-bite caused by multiple ankylosed teeth: a case report.
Ankylosed teeth fail to erupt to meet their counterparts in the opposite jaw. In cases where ankylosis occurs in multiple teeth, the occlusion shows an open bite. This article describes a case of unilateral open bite caused by multiple ankylosed teeth, where treatment involved segmental alveolar bone distraction. A 25-year-old female patient presented with a left-sided unilateral open bite. On ...
